With the Fourth of July around the corner, firework tents are popping up in vacant lots and strip malls all over Southwest Michigan. If you plan on lighting off some fireworks, know the rules first:
- It is only legal to light off fireworks the day before, the day of, and the day after the holiday. This year, July 4th is on a Wednesday, so fireworks will be legal Tuesday through Thursday of that week.
- There are only certain times during the day that you are allowed to light fireworks. In Kalamazoo, it is illegal to light of fireworks between the hours of midnight and 8:00am. Check your local ordinances as they may differ.
- Fireworks are not permitted on public property. If you are planning to shoot some off, be sure you have permission on private property.
Remember, if you light a firework and it causes bodily harm or property damage, you may be liable. To find out exactly what your coverage is, contact your Miller-Schuring agent today!
